Criminal Justice Club Bylaws

Article I: Name

Section 1. The name of this club shall be Grundy Area Vocational Center CRIMINAL JUSTICE CLUB.

Article II: Objects & Activities

Section 1. The objectives of Criminal Justice Club shall be:

  • To develop initiative and leadership skills.
  • To serve the schools, communities & Grundy Area Vocational Center.
  • To be an honorable member of our communities.

To accept and promote the following ideals:

  • To give value to the human spirit and to all of life.
  • To promote higher standards of excellence in all aspects of life.
  • To provide a practical mean to form enduring friendships, to render unselfish service, and to build better communities.

Section 2. The activities of Criminal Justice Club shall be in accord with its objectives.  They should include those suggested by the sponsor, plus such additional activities as might be adopted by the club and approved by the administration.

Article III. Motto

Section 1. The motto of the Criminal Justice Club shall be, “Building community leadership through commitment, respect, spirit, and honor.”

Article IV. Membership

Section 1. Membership shall be limited to high school seniors & juniors who are currently enrolled in Grundy Area Vocational Center’s Criminal Justice I or Criminal Justice II.

Section 2. Subject to review and approval by the administration, the Board shall have the power to suspend or expel a member non-paying of dues, for non-attendance at meetings without valid excuse, or conduct unbecoming a member. 

Article V. Officers

Section 1. Officers shall be president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.  They shall serve for one year or until their successors are elected and qualify. 

Section 2. Each officer shall be a member of Criminal Justice II, in good standing.  No other restrictions or limitations shall be placed on these officers. 

Section 3. In the event that an elected officer cannot fulfill his/her duties, an election will be held to fill the vacated position for the remainder of the said term. 

Section 4. There shall be a Board, composed of the above officers and the members enrolled in Criminal Justice II.

Section 5. The duties of the officers shall be such as are usually performed by similar office holders.

Section 6. The Board shall approve the budget, approve all bills, take counsel with committees, discipline members, review and report to the sponsor the performance of the club officers; and perform such other duties as shall be referred to it by the club in compliance with these bylaws.

Section 7. All action by the club and the Board shall be subject to the approval of the Administration.  The Board shall meet at least once monthly at a time and place selected by the Board.

Section 8. Any general member may recommend the removal of a club officer to the Board.  The Board shall hold a meeting at which, the officer in question shall be heard.  If approved, the recommendation shall be presented to the club and voted on the 2/3 vote of the quorum.  In the event, any officer shall be notified in writing by the secretary or treasurer in the secretary’s absence.

Article VI:  Election of Officers

Section 1. Election of new officers (president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer) should be held at a meeting in August and they should take office in September.

Article VII: Meetings

Section 1. The club shall hold regular monthly meetings at such time and place as all be determined by the club with the approval of the sponsor.

Article VIII: Annual Dues

Section 1. Total amount of dues shall be $5.00 per member, per year.

Article IX: Amendments

Section 1. Amendments to these bylaws shall be adopted by two-thirds vote of the members present at any regular meeting held one week or more after regular meetings at which the proposed amendment of amendments were read, or after giving written notice there of to each member one week prior to the action on such amendment or amendments.

Section 2. These bylaws and all amendments or additions shall not become effective until they have been approved by the sponsor and Administration.
