At it's regular meeting of April 24, 2007, the Grundy Area Vocational Center (GAVC) Board of Control has named Lance Copes, Director and Mark Hulbert, Assistant Director effective July 1, 2007. Copes, who currently serves as Assistant Director is replacing former Director Dave Potts who passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2007. Hulbert currently serves as Dean of Students for the Center.

Copes, a resident of Coal City, has been Assistant Director at GAVC since 2004. "GAVC has established a tradition of excellence in providing a 21st century workforce for the employers of Grundy County. I look forward to continuing that tradition and to build on the business partnerships developed by Director Potts," said Copes.

Hulbert, a former probation officer, has been a Criminal Justice instructor at GAVC since 2000. He is completing his first year as Dean of Students. "It's an honor to serve the students and staff of GAVC. GAVC is a great place to learn and Grundy County is a great place to work," according to Hulbert. "We strive to get better every year."

Interim Director Dr. Mike Throneburg complimented the Board of Control on this appointment. "The Board of Control recognized that it had two quality internal candidates who deserved promotion. Lance and Mark have the energy and vision to continue to make curricular improvements that will meet the ever changing demands of today's business community. We are fortunate to have them."
