Prototype Handicapped Controls

by Jim Falbo

September 07, 2007

Prototype #1

Prototype #2

GAVC would like to thank Larry Randa from the Joliet Herald News for the $400 donation to this project. Also thanks to Scott Slocum from WJOL 1340 AM for making this happen. Students first made the game. Then, controls were made using scrap. The control is four magnetic switches triggered by a speaker magnet. When the magnet is placed close to the switch, the switch activates telling the character on the screen which way to go. A driving game foot pedal control was rewired to allow the character to jump.

Lessons Learned:
conduit bending, basic programming, input / output control, S.P.S.T. switching, graphics control, interfacing, and wiring.

Related Subjects: The wiring is the same as wiring light switches in a house. C
onduit bending skills were used to create the frame. The graphics control is the same as industry standard man machine interface. The programming is the same as Basic Language PLC programming, and the input / output control is the same as PLC control.

Future Plans: Students will improve on the design and hopefully make it something a handicapped person can use to play a game.
