For Students: School-To-Apprenticeship

January 15, 2008

Build your future on a SOLID foundation.

What is School-To-Apprenticeship?

School-To-Apprenticeship (STA) is a program for Juniors in participating schools who are interested in a rewarding career in the construction trades. It includes rigorous academic and technical preparation during high school. Those who meet established standards may be selected for a paid supervised work experience, typically during the summer between Junior and Senior years.

During Senior year, activities may include visiting apprenticeship facilities, mentoring Juniors in the program, cooperative education and/or assisting with the annual Construction Career Expos. Upon graduation, students are encouraged to apply for a federally recognized construction apprenticeship program. While participating in the STA program does not guarantee that graduates will be accepted into an apprenticeship, students should be well prepared to compete for available openings.

Building Your Future...Is All Up To You.

You will have the unique opportunity to:

  • Prepare for potential entry into a federally insured, registered Apprenticeship Program.

  • Build a foundation for a long-term relationship with a local employer.

Building Your Future...On A Solid Foundation.

  • Assist young people who have the potential to become valuable future employees.
  • Work with young people who have met rigorous standards and are preparing to enter a career in construction.
  • Help provide the industry with future trades people.
  • Support education to meet the realistic needs of students and the economy.

The School-To-Apprenticeship Program is not for every student or every organization. For students, the guidelines and expectations are rigorous. The rewards come from preparing for a trade with a bright, exciting future.

For employers, it takes a company dedicated to sharing its time and knowledge with a young adult to make the program successful.
