March 20, 2008
The Criminal Justice 2 class of Mr Williamson recently completed an assignment in creating a police department. The teams were presented with facts of a community, a set of crime statistics, and a budget to work on.
The students had to organize the manpower distribution, set salaries, create an organization flow chart, and purchase equipment. There were 8 different teams created and the students were able to present their police department to the other students in the class.
Criminal Justice 2 class is also preparing for a trip to Springfield to represent the Vocational Center at the Policeman's Memorial Service on May 1. The solemn event recognizes the police officers that had been killed in the line of duty and are recognized during police week.
Criminal Justice 1 class has been busy working with the history of Criminal Justice. They have worked on projects with Federal Agencies and have had guest speakers in class to talk about their positions that they have at various agencies.
Lately, the Criminal Justice 1 class has had Coroner John Callahan and Deputy Coroner Phyllis Dralle to speak about death investigation and the Coroner's office. Also they took a tour of the Grundy County Jail and were able to speak to Judge Marsaglia about the court system and how the courtroom is designed. The Judge answered questions the students had about being a Judge.
The students also spoke with States Attorney Sheldon Sobol who talked about being a States Attorney and how cases are prepared for court. He also showed the students the historical courtroom at the Courthouse.
They are anticipating guest speakers from the Dept of Conservation and also a K-9 unit from the Grundy County Sheriff's Police.
The Criminal Justice seniors are all preparing for their future either in college or the work world. They have been working hard on scholarship applications and also interviewing for other scholarships. We wish them all good luck in their future endeavors.
