Prerequisites: 1. Student must successfully complete Early Childhood I
2. Student must have reliable transportation
3. Student must possess an interest in working with young children
Course
Description: This course is designed for those students who would like
to continue to build on their acquired skills from the
Early Childhood Education I course. Each student will
be developing their own work plan for the program by
choosing 2 semester practicum experiences to complete
their training portfolio. Areas of focus will include:
history & philosophy of education, diversity, parent
involvement, discipline, developmentally appropriate
practices, child observations, and advocacy.

by developing the following work ethics:
1. Be prompt and attend regularly.
2. Be courteous and respectful to others.
3. Be equipped with material and supplies.
4. Be responsible for course requirements.
5. Be a good listener.

Workbook & Observation Handbook
3. Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early
Childhood Programs by NAEYC Sue Bredekamp and
Carol Copple, Editors
4. $20 Course Fee
Course
Requirements: Students will be graded using a cumulative point system
each quarter. Completion of workbooks, projects,
research papers, assignments, group projects,
participation, and evaluations from on-site
experiences assists in determining a students grade.
Grading Scale: 93 – 100% A
85 – 92% B
77 – 84% C
70 – 76% D
69 and below F
Grading Plan: Grading in based on accumulated points.
Attendance: Expected. You will be responsible for your own success
or failure with attendance.
Careers & Job
Outlook: According to the US Dept. of Labor, http://www.bls.gov/home.htm, Early Childhood Education should maintain and grow over the next ten years with No Child Left Behind. The outlook is strong for the following positions: Pre-School Teachers with a Type 04 Certification, Kindergarten Teachers, and Early Childhood Special Education Teachers.
