The Criminal Justice Class recently competed in the Illinois National Guard Law Enforcement Challenge held at the Marseilles Training Center south of Seneca. There were schools from Bloomington, Collinsville, Decatur, Grundy Area Vocational Center, Indian Valley Vocational Center, Kankakee Area Career Center, Lincolnland Technical Education Center, Livingston Area Career Center, and Will County Career Center.

The contest consisted of a 3 mile run where all participants ran three miles in teams of 6 and also had to carry a 25 lb pack through the three mile run. The next competition was a building clearance paint ball exercise where they had to clear three buildings of resistant offenders with guns. They also had to rescue a hostage and drag a simulated injured partner 30 yds to a waiting ambulance. The final competition was an obstacle course set up over 1/4 mile. This obstacle course had a seven foot wall to scale, simulated grenade toss, balance beams to run across, climb under barbed wire, climb under a beam, climb a rope, go across monkey bars, run through a 3 ft tunnel and also jump over a four foot wall and scale a platform.

The first four schools in the contest in the order that they finished were:

1. Livingston Area Career Center

2. Grundy Area Vocational Center

3. Kankakee Area Career Center

4. Bloomington Area Career Center

Students participating from the Grundy Area Vocational Center were:

David Spinola, Shawn Schultz, Andrew Tuley, Joel Gotz, Anthony Lawless, Andy Oehlwein, Toni Childress, Katie Goudie, Eduardo Lopez, Jalen Grady, Joye Gentry, Matthew Stevens, Brandon Ford, Charles Phillips, and Zach Entwistle.

We are very proud of all of the students and their dedication to the Criminal Justice Program. We would also like to thank Officer Bucciarellli and Dep Chief Wold of the Channahon Police Dept who came to the Center and helped to prepare the students for the competition.
