RULES AND REGULATIONS

Grundy Area Vocational Center (GAVC) students who attend the Morris Academy of Hair Design agree to follow the rules and regulations that are listed below:

      -     Students will be clocked in on the time clock and signed in by 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for their assigned time block.  Signing in after the assigned time, the student is considered tardy and the time will be started on the next half-hour.  State time sheets must be completed every day by the student.

      -     Students must wear an ironed, clean, Academy approved uniform at all times.  Students are required to purchase their T-shirts through the Academy.  The T-shirts are being procured by the GAVC Entrepreneurship class solely for Cosmetology students at cost.  Black shoes and pants must be purchased by the student.  A black cape (part of the kit) complete the beginning students’ uniform.  Unprofessional dress will result in disciplinary consequences.  Subsequent violations will result in student being sent home by GAVC Administration and a loss of hours.

      -     Instructors will assign work to be completed by each student.  Students cannot refuse a patron or have another student complete their work.  Patrons are to be treated with courtesy and respect at all times.  Instructor approval is required before any product is used with a patron.

      -     To receive credit toward 1500 hours, students must be working in assigned areas.  Breaks will be allowed by the instructor as needed.

      -     No eating, drinking or gum chewing is allowed on the floor or in the classroom.

      -     Students will be required to learn and complete state sanitation requirements.

      -     Students will be required to have equipment and supplies available for use at all times.  Lack of supplies is not a valid reason for refusing a customer.  Borrowing of another student's equipment or supplies is prohibited!!

      -     Students attend the Academy to become a licensed cosmetologist, so outside books, magazines, or homework is prohibited.  Personal use of supplies and/or equipment will result in students being charged at customer rates for services.

      -     Students are required to attend the Academy the same time block on Saturday that they attend during the week.  Saturday attendance is mandatory!! If a student is ill on Saturday, the student’s parent or guardian must call the Academy prior to the time block of attendance.  The student must bring a written excuse, signed by the parent or guardian upon returning to class.  If this 2-step policy is not followed, the Cosmetology student is not allowed to attend the following Tuesday and the student must report to a GAVC Administrator.  If a student knows they will be absent on a Saturday, they must pre-arrange in writing and a phone call from the parent/guardian to Cyndy McRaven or the designated person in charge.

      -     The Grundy Area Vocational Center and the Morris Academy of Hair Design are designated as NON-SMOKING.  Possession or use of cigarettes or smokeless tobacco is prohibited!!  This includes inside the Academy, outside the building and parking lot during school hours.

      -     Personal items must be kept in lockers and secured, including ALL cell phones.

      -     Additional rules and regulations are contained in the Grundy Area Vocational Center student handbook which the student will be expected to read and follow.

CONSEQUENCES:

With regard to Rules and Regulations, there are many things a student can be written up for.  The following is a list of the consequences; any violations may result in the following, but not limited to:

            1.         Written warning.

            2.         Written report and loss of breaks for 1 week.

            3.         Parent contact by the instructor and no breaks/services for 1 week.

            4.         Disciplinary referral to GAVC Administration.

            5.         Parent conference to determine continuation in program.

I have received the Grundy Area Vocational Center’s Student RULES AND REGULATIONS for Cosmetology and I understand that I will be receiving the Student Handbook at the start of this current school year in August 2009 for the Morris Academy of Hair Design.
