GAVC is proud to announce the following results for the SkillsUSA state competition. Brian LaRou repeated as state champion in the WELDING competition. Brian is a senior from Morris High School and has put in many long hours to accomplish his second straight win. Finishing second in the welding competition was Tony Veronda. Tony is a senior from Coal City High School and has worked very hard this year to accomplish his dream of standing on the podium. Congratulations to these two young men. The results for the Welding students are as follows;
1st place: Brian LaRou, 2nd place: Tony Veronda, 4th place: Ryan Lenzie, 5th place: Jacob Hicks, 6th place: Glen Erickson, 8th place: Aaron Odom, 9th place: Kyle Kussy, 10th place: Chris Ingram, 11th place: Domenic Serena, 13th place: Kyle Dearth, 14th place: Mitch Jessen, 16th place: Sean Elens, 17th place: Ryan Vint, 18th place: Tyler Thetard, 21st place: Zach Robinson, and 22nd place: Mike Marchese. We are very proud of all of their hard work and dedication.
We are also very proud of the CRIMINAL JUSTICE students that competed in various competitions while in Springfield. Katie Niewinski, Toni Childress, and David Welter competed in the individual criminal justice category. David finished in 20th place, Katie placed 21st, and Toni was close behind in 22nd place. We took two teams down to compete as CSI teams. The team of Joel Gotz, Patrick Miracle, and Douglas Howard finished in 9th place. The team of A.J. Riley, Oscar Yanes, and Russell Hornbeck finished in 12th place. Congratulations to all of your hard work and dedication.
The EARLY CHILDHOOD students also took home a state champion team. Brittany Shannon and Zuleima Ochoa competed as a team in the Interactive Bulletin Board competition and came out on top. Brittany and Zu are seniors from Morris High School. They created a bulletin board called “OH! The Colors You Can See!” We also took home 2nd place in this competition. The 2nd place team consisted of Rachel Clewell and Kori Beck. Rachel is a senior while Kori is a junior at Morris High School. They created a bulletin board called “Doggy, doggy where’s your bone?” Congratulations on your success!
Also, we had three girls: Melissa Ward, Katy Summers, and Brianna Boseo, compete in Preschool Teaching Assistant competition. Katy finished in 8th place, Brianna followed in 8th place, and Melissa finished in 11th place. Congratulations to all three girls!
GAVC is very proud of all of these students and their outstanding accomplishments!!
