Franklin Cosmetology Institute
Cosmetology Program
August 01, 2010
Cosmetology is a two-year program open to young men and women interested in the broad field of cosmetology. The goal of the program is to adequately prepare students through training, theory, and practical in order to successfully pass the state requirements to become a professional, licensed cosmetologist.
GAVC students participate in both classroom and practical experiences at the Franklin Cosmetology Institute, located in downtown Morris.
Training in this field provides for career opportunities as a hair stylist, hair coloring technician, make-up artist, beauty counselor, and skin care advisor. Additional training is provided for preparation to become a licensed instructor, salon owner, or director of a school.
To become a professional cosmetologist, the State of Illinois requires 1500 hours of training from an accredited cosmetology school and the successful passing of the State Board exam. If a student starts the cosmetology program during junior year in high school and has good attendance, the student can complete the 1500 hours required by the end of senior year.
