Beginning Course Description

January 05, 2006

This course is a year long program with intense curriculum introducing the student to the health care field. Content of the beginning health occupations program includes content and skills necessary for the student to become certified in Illinois as a nursing assistant. With this certification, a student can become gainfully employed within the health care industry. The curriculum addresses body mechanics, safety, legal and ethical issues, workplace safety, anatomy and physiology, and current health care workplace skills. Students are required to master the necessary skills that would ensure a competent health care worker. Another portion of the program includes clinical experiences where students perform their acquired knowledge and skills on real clients in both hospital and nursing home facilities. HOSA, the student organization, is an important link between school and the healthcare industry.
