GAVC WINS BIG!
597 Welding Competition
by Jim Cebulski
Saturday October 22nd GAVC welding was invited to bring two welding students to Local 597 Pipe fitters State of the Art Training Facility in Mokena for their first ever welding competition. There were approximately 45 welding students in which half were from local high schools and the other half were from colleges or welding schools within the state. The competition was not separated but rather just one competition for both high schools and post secondary educational welding institutions. GAVC took 1st and 3rd place finishes respectfully. All participants and instructors were given red carpet treatment that only Local Union 597 could provide. There were tours of the enormous state of the art facility and prizes for all competitors the exceeded even the Illinois State Competition.
