A former Coal City High School, and GAVC Criminal Justice student, Daina Smith enlisted in the U. S. Navy after graduation. Daina is a Petty Officer Second Class and is assigned to the Pacific Fleet Destroyer, USS Kidd DG-100. Petty Officer Smith just returned to her home port of Everett, Wa. after a 7 month deployment around the globe.
While traversing the globe, Daina continued her assignment learned in Criminal Justice of collecting police patches. The patches Daina collected are now proudly displayed in Mr. Hanley’s classroom at Coal City High School. We thank Daina for her service and duty to the United States.
