Dear Student & Parents,
Welcome to the GAVC Culinary Arts program! I am excited to meet you all and get to know you as you engage in a two-year program of culinary events and classroom projects. We will be using the textbook Culinary Arts Principles and Applications 2nd ed. by Chef Michael McGreal and Professional Baking 7th ed. by Wayne Gisslen.
As emerging chefs, you will be wearing your chef coat and cap daily, as we will be in the kitchen learning skills, cooking, baking, etc. every day. A sturdy pair of closed toed shoes (flip-flops or sandals will not be allowed in the cooking area) preferably non-slip and full-length pants/jeans (shorts, capris, etc. will not be allowed in the kitchen area) are a required part of your daily uniform. Fake nails, dips, earbuds, cell phones, facial piercings, and chewing gum will not be allowed in the cooking area as they are a sanitation and safety hazard. The class uniform is a sanitation and safety requirement and is for your protection and well-being as you learn, chop, dice, cook, bake, clean, explore and work together safely in the kitchen.
Students will need to earn a ServSafe Food Handlers Certificate on their own before they are allowed in the kitchens, found here: https://www.servsafe.com/ServSafe-Food-Handler. The cost of the certificate is $15.00 and will be paid directly to ServSafe. I strongly recommend completing this before classes begin–save your student’s username and password for future reference. Certificates must be printed out and handed in.
Fees will be collected in GAVC PowerSchool after August 1, 2025 upon registering your student for GAVC for the upcoming school year. The following fees are due by the first day of class:
